Valley Organics is a thriving, ethical workers’ co-operative supplying organic fresh produce, groceries and household products in Hebden Bridge. We also run a veg box scheme and have recently expanded the delivery service we launched in response to Covid-19.  Our business is owned and run collectively by our members and everyone receives equal pay.

We are currently looking for a new co-op member to join our team. The role will involve day to day work in the core areas of our business (our shop, veg box scheme or delivery service) as well as playing a pro-active role in the collective running of our co-op. This might include taking on ordering duties or working in one of our ‘back office’ teams such as HR or Finance and will certainly involve attending regular co-op meetings and playing your part in collective decision making.

You’ll need to be an excellent co-operator. It’s at the heart of everything we do and although it’s not without its challenges at times, we believe the rewards of working collectively are worth it! You’ll also need to have opinions and be able to express these constructively and respectfully to colleagues, taking a full part in discussions and decision-making.

You will start out as a probationary co-op member, participating in our training programme over a minimum period of 6 months. All full members of our co-op also become directors of our business.
You’ll need to be available for between 20-28 hours per week and be willing to take a turn at weekend working. More hours may be available in the near future. JOB DESCRIPTION
Job title: Probationary Co-op Member
Summary: To provide a high standard of service to our customers through a range of core tasks on which our business depends as well as participating fully in our membership training programme to enable full contribution to the collective running of our business.
As a probationary co-op member at Valley Organics you will be expected to:
● participate in one of the core roles of our co-op such as working in our shop, on our veg box scheme or in our delivery service. This may involve, among other things, serving customers,
operating our till system, re-stocking products, dealing with deliveries, cleaning, cashing up, packing veg boxes, picking and packing orders for delivery;
● undertake additional member responsibilities within other business functions such as finance or HR, ordering our products or liaising with suppliers. We will try to utilise your existing skills and
develop your other interests in our business;
● attend all probationary member training sessions and complete the pathway to membership;
● regularly attend and participate in co-op meetings;
● submit agenda items in good time with all relevant information;
● take a fair share of responsibility for actions arising from meetings;
● have regular access to emails and respond in a timely way;
● actively contribute to the collective decision making involved in running our business;
● be able to train others in the core roles you have undertaken
